Dam levels reach 45% as water crises deepens
Monday, February 8, 2010 at 04:44AM The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality once again calls on all fellow citizens of Nelson Mandela Bay to step up their efforts and commitment to water conservation. With the high water consumption over November and December 2009, the dams have dropped to an alarming 45%. Water restrictions are now in place and if no further rain falls soon water will run out within 10 months. The restrictions were first introduced in October 2009 in order to stem the tide and promote water conservation by all residents and businesses in Nelson Mandela Bay. Residents are requested to seriously change their levels of consumption since current dam levels are very low and if no significant rains fall in the catchment areas, water reserves will be depleted in 10 months time.
